2:30 PM – 2:50 PM | Maximizing Operational Efficiency – A Study into Proper Valve Technology Selection and Sizing for Critical Geothermal Applications

Renewable energy sources continue to be key elements of the North American energy landscape. Although the United States is a current leader in geothermal electricity generation, efficient energy production is not as easy as one would expect. The geothermal industry is riddled with tough conditions due to demanding process conditions, such as high temperatures, pressure differences, flashing, and scaling. Improper valve design or material selection can lead to inefficient operation and unwanted loss in energy. In this technical discussion, I will review the challenges that isolation and control valves face in critical geothermal applications. Furthermore, I will review revolutionary valve technology that mitigates common problems within these challenging applications while enhancing service life and reliability. Critical applications such as wellhead separation, ORC systems, condensers, and brine reinjection will be reviewed, as efficiency and safety are key to success.

3:00 PM – 3:20 PM | Altitude Advantage: Rapid Iterative Testing and Implementation for Optimized Directional Drilling in a new EGS Field in Beaver County

This session will focus on iterative drilling optimization for horizontal geothermal wells drilled for an operator in a Beaver County, UT. Over the course of fifteen wells Altitude was able to optimize well to well performance and bit life. The first 4 well pad drilled saved the operator over $340,000 from the first to the last well.
